One of the best plant for autumn / fall flowers are Schizostylis - also known as Hesperantha, or Kaffir lily or flag lily. Roger has some clumps of these wonderful uplifting plants growing in the school garden - originally planted as bulbs in early spring they have multi[plied over the years ... despite growing in quite shaded areas (several online resources suggest that they must have plenty of sunlight but ours are all in quite shaded areas with only limited sunlight). They can quite easily be forgotten for many months of the year as they don't seem to do much for much of spring and early summer, and then in early autumn (September here in wales, UK) they seem to put on more leaf growth and the first few flower spikes start to appear but as we progress into Autumn more and more flowers keep on appearing and can keep going well into winter. Cutting stems for flower arrangements will encourage more flowers. A high potash fertilizer in early summer would also help encourage more flowers later in the year - although to be honest ours in the video have received very little feed ... or indeed very little care at all - and yet each year they come back with more flowers regardless of the weather conditions!
