This little diesel has returned to the workbench again for some repairs and upgrades. Orginally being built as a 2 wheel drive loco the wheels started slipping on their axles making it a no wheel drive diesel so some upgrades were in order. Over the last few weeks I have been thinking about how I could upgrade the chassis so it was 4 wheel drive. With the wheels now needing to be taken off, I decided that this was the perfect time to do such a job. Firstly the holes which allowed the gears to sit into the chassis was widened to stop the main driving gear from catching. In addition to this some journalled rollers were 3d printed and fitted to both axles in which the elastic band drive could sit into to help with adhesion and prevent the band from moving side to side under operation. A new sturdier rear axle was installed and all 4 wheels were super glued to the axles rather that hot glued which should help stopping them from spinning on their axles. Also traction tyres were fitted to the front wheels With the upgrades the loco now pulls more than double what it could manage before and can pull the tipper wagons quite comfortably without slipping. I'm now rather pleased with how this loco turned out and look forward to seeing it out and about on the railway. :)
