In this Khutbah, Imam Naazim Alaji discusses the significance of fasting in Islam and its role in achieving taqwa (God-consciousness). He emphasizes that humans are inherently weak and prone to worries about the future and present, which money alone cannot solve (6:36). The Imam highlights that true peace and freedom from worry come from being a "friend of Allah" (10:02), which is achieved through taqwa. He explains that this concept is not limited to past generations but is obtainable now by following the teachings of the Quran (10:44). Key ways to achieve taqwa through fasting, as explained in the video: • Giving generously: This doesn't only mean money, but also time, strength, and effort for the sake of Allah and Islam (12:22). He shares a hadith about a man who gave one dinar and it weighed more than 100,000 dinars because it was half of what he owned (12:58). • Swallowing anger: Especially when in a position of authority, controlling one's anger and forgiving others from the heart is crucial for taqwa (14:44). • Proper fasting: This involves not just abstaining from food and drink, but also fasting with the entire body: • Eyes: Lowering the gaze and avoiding looking at haram (forbidden) things (18:22). • Ears: Abstaining from listening to haram, like backbiting or music that displeases Allah, and instead listening to Quran and beneficial hadith (18:54). • Mouth: Avoiding backbiting, slandering, and speaking ill of others (19:27). • Limbs: Ensuring that hands and feet are not used to engage in haram activities (20:43). The Imam concludes by reiterating that fasting is a direct act for Allah, and its reward is immense and directly given by Allah on the Day of Judgment (21:10). He stresses that this direct communication with Allah, achieved through sincerity in fasting and striving for taqwa, allows Allah to take away all worries and problems (23:53).
