Paul Franklin, two-time Oscar-winning VFX supervisor (Interstellar and Inception) and Dneg founder, hosted two mixed reality production workshops for members of Directors UK at ARRI Stage London during our recent ARRI & Friends event. Throughout the interactive sessions, Paul demonstrated this new technology's creative possibilities. Paul also highlighted the production efficiencies and workflow benefits of shooting in a LED volume. Practical benefits of meta-data flow from the lens (Signature Primes) through the camera (ALEXA Mini LF) to Unreal Engine and ARRI's color management are the critical attributes for getting stunning results in camera on set. ARRI's mixed reality studio, set up in collaboration with Creative Technology, features one of the country's most significant and most sophisticated LED volumes.
