Com Accel Wk x28: Debra Davis, Saloon Showcase 1 (Feb 22, 2026) okay, big weekend for the Accelerator. had a guest expert, big time producer Debra Davis, and then we jetted over to Shiner’s Saloon for our first showcase night somewhere over 30 people showed, biggest crowd yet. interesting when that many comedy-humans come together, has a real energy to it. also chaotic, bc comics just blurt stuff out, but a good chaos i talked a bit again about having a money-orientation vs a have-fun/artist orientation to your comedy. I just think it’s a great additional way of thinking as you develop to point toward making money with your comedy, for many reasons. () it makes you take your comedy development more seriously, because you know you’re only going to get paid if you get good; () it makes you realize that even being a standup is actually a collection of jobs, all which need to be done, and done well (producer, writer, director, actor, public speaker, host, social media manager, etc, etc, etc) () it doesn’t let you linger in illusion-land -- aka, I am so much better at standup than the thousands of others at my same level after my spiel we jumped right into the Insta-Fix part of the workshop. We had I think 8 people go on, and as always, it’s a mix of analyzing them on: () Script () Performance () Character () Communication; it’s really fascinating to see the instant improvement that happens when someone tries something, gets fast feedback, and then tries it again and then we jumped over to Debra, who sat on stage and told everyone about the world of producing things like Coachella, and how people can find their way into the different worlds of producing (as assistants, then moving up through competence, likability, work ethic, talent, etc, etc). It was really fun listening to the interchange between thirty people, most of whom have never experienced the backstage life and processes of professional entertainment, and someone who has been right in the middle of that work for decades. I’m going to keep bringing in local entertainment pros so workshoppers can network with them directly, and de-mystify, de-intimidate by seeing what that full-time entertainment life is like behind the curtain next we popped over to Shiner’s Saloon for a night of 90 minutes of showcase comedy. I’ll talk about the entire evening over on the YouTube page, but there were maybe 40 people total, half of those were actual audience, and -- seriously -- i thought every single comic did well. everybody had their 5 mins ready to go, had punchlines, connected with the audience, brought energy, etc, etc. really fun night. excited to see where it goes. also, Rock took pics, so we’ll be posting those on the FB page and all that jazz
