Performed: August 14, 2022 Baldwin Common, Historic Savage, MD Concert Playlist:    • CBB: August 14, 2022 - Baldwin Common Park...   Columbia Big Band returned to Carroll Baldwin Hall in Savage, MD, for the third and final time of summer 2022. After rescheduling from a mid-July date due to extreme heat, the forecast looked great - overcast, dry, cooling, the perfect setting for a great concert. Then our director came down sick, and rain started up right before intermission, cutting the concert short! Despite the early night, the band and crowd had a great evening, enjoying some longstanding classics alongside some of our newest, most contemporary, and least-heard charts. Porter composed this chart for "The New Yorkers" on Broadway, his lyrics written from the viewpoint of a streetwalker. Considered shocking at the time, it was recorded as an instrumental in the U.S., then later widely covered by vocalists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Shirley Bassey, Vivan Green, and K.D. Lang. Our repertoire covers genres such as traditional Big Band, Bebop, Fusion, Swing and Latin, among others. We are members of the community who enjoy performing for all audiences. Though some members play and teach music professionally, the members are volunteers employed in a wide variety of professions who share a love of music. CBB is one of several bands within the Columbia Bands non-profit organization. The Columbia Big Band hopes to bring the enjoyment of big band music to a wide audience.
