This drone footage captures the controlled top-down demolition of the Avenham Tower Blocks in Preston, Lancashire, carried out by Rhodar. From ground level, the operation appears relatively quiet — but from above, the scale and coordination involved in this high-rise dismantling process becomes clear. The demolition is being carried out using a progressive top-down method, with the upper floors systematically broken out and removed section by section. Equipment in Operation: 🔴 WOLFF Luffing Jib Tower Cranes Two high-rise configured luffing tower cranes are used to: • Lift muck skips filled with demolition arisings • Lower skips to ground level for emptying • Reposition empty skips back to roof level • Assist in controlled removal of structural wall panels using chain slings 🏗 Hyundai HX17Az Mini Excavators (Roof Level) Two 1.7-ton zero tail swing excavators are deployed on the roof slab, fitted with various hydraulic attachments including breakers and grabs. These machines: • Break out reinforced concrete • Strip internal walls and structural elements • Load rubble into crane-lifted muck skips 🚜 Hyundai HX330AL Excavator (Ground Level) A 33-ton crawler excavator fitted with a hydraulic concrete pulveriser processes the lowered wall sections and slab material, crushing concrete and separating steel reinforcement for recycling. 🔥 Hot Works / Steel Processing Oxy-propane cutting is used to sever exposed rebar and embedded steel during structural separation. ⸻ The reinforced concrete walls are drilled, chain-slung, and lifted clear by the tower crane before being lowered to ground level for processing. This method ensures: • Controlled material removal • Reduced dust and vibration • Maximum recycling of demolition materials • Safe dismantling within a confined urban environment Seeing the project from the air truly highlights the complexity and constant activity involved — something that simply isn’t visible from the ground. #Demolition #Excavator #Construction #HeavyMachinery #DroneFootage #Rhodar
