In this first part of our Oregon winter trip, we head into the mountains for a few days of overlanding, snow camping, and skiing. What started as a quiet drive through icy forest roads turned into river crossings, dispersed camping in the trees, and exploring the volcanic landscape of Central Oregon. From lava fields near the Lava River Cave Visitor Center to learning about the region’s history at the High Desert Museum, this trip kept unfolding in unexpected ways. We set up camp near the mountain, not knowing what the next day would bring. This was the calm before the storm — and we had no idea the best powder of our lives was waiting. Part 2 coming soon.
