Morning Friends, I am on the front porch of the Farmhaus Coffee Company here in Waynesboro. The front porch is a great space for reflection, conversation and of coarse a great place to drink a cup of coffee. Yesterday, I was visiting with a new friend on her porch hearing her stories about home and work, life and death, joy and struggle. Time seems to pass differently on a front porch, the focus is not on a watch or a calendar but on how many stories can be shared and how many people we greet as they pass by. My grandparents in Kentucky were professionals at front porch sitting. They used their carport like a large porch and would sit outside for hours as neighbors walked over to share stories, family stopped by for a short visit, and grandchildren would catch lightening bugs in the front yard. My grandparents appreciated the time to be fully present with one another. As an adult, when I step outside on my front porch, I leave behind many distractions. Sitting in a chair on the porch gives opportunity to reflect on life by giving thanks for times that have gone well and letting go of regrets with forgiveness. Sitting outside we can experience the beauty of each season. When two chairs are occupied on the front porch, we can be ready for a blessing to appear in the time shared together. The writer of Ecclesiastes says in 3:1, For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. My prayer for you is to find a front porch in this season of your life. Reflect on the past, share a conversation with a new or old friend and allow time to be fully present with God. Take care and have a blessed week.
