An interpretation of Caprice No.4 by Luigi Legnani, performed on a classical guitar by Antoine Pansera. Luigi Legnani was a guitar composer whose most active years coincided with the rise of the Romantic period. His virtuosity has often been compared to that of his friend Paganini, and it is highly probable that his 36 caprices for guitar op. 20 were inspired by Paganini's 24 Caprices for violin op. 1. Like Pagagnini's Caprricci, Legnani's are dramatic, expressive and brilliant; demonstrating youthful exuberance while exploring most possible textures on their respective instrument. This Caprice captures Legnani’s operatic sensibility and his expressive approach to the Romantic guitar. Its dramatic contrasts and fluid melodies highlight the guitar’s vocal character. I'm a Baroque lute, Renaissance lute, Classical guitar, and other plucked-string instruments aficionado! My repertoire focuses mainly on Early music, but also includes Romantic and Avant-Garde works.
