In mid-August we traveled to Crowders Mountain, a North Carolina State Park situated just an hour west of downtown Charlotte. If you live in the Queen City and crave some adventure, this is what the doctor ordered. The Pinnacle (aka Kings Pinnacle) is the higher of two peaks located in the park. The trail to its peak is considered moderate, but the last half mile is steep and should not be underestimated. Lace up your hiking boots and bring some water. As you near the peak, you will be greeted with danger signs warning of possible death. There is even an old worn “trail ends here” sign that summons your inner explorer to push forward. Climb the short rock wall and you will find a number of rock scrambles that can take you to wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Don’t be foolish, take care around the cliff edges, and most of all have fun!
