Here's my first work on YouTube. I hope you enjoy it. This soundtrack somehow sums up my experience with war, political persecution and forced immigration. At the age of 16, my family and I rebelled against a dictatorship led by a tyrant called Assad in Damascus starting from 2011 onwards through demonstrations to demand freedom, civil rights, democracy, and a secular regime that ensures equality for its citizens after 40 years of oppression. At the age of 17, I was kidnapped by the regime secret intelligence forces, tortured on daily bases while I was kept in an underground prison cell with ~40 other individuals. The reason: I demonstrated against the regime. The protests back then usually took place on Fridays, I can still recall the day of my release on Thursday so I joined a protest the very next day and forward. At the age of 19 my mother was kidnapped by the same regime and took us more than 5 months to get her out of a prison similar to the one I was inside in a nearly impossible procedure. At the age of 19 my stepfather was kidnapped by the regime and killed by their hands and our house was nearly destroyed. At 21 I got informations that they are targeting me and the rest of my family again. We knew that this time we will not make it through alive. so we left everything behind and headed out of the country in one of the hardest trips imaginable to deal with the struggle of starting a new life from absolute zero and now, at 25 I can say that we have managed to establishe it. This soundtrack in my interpretation is a great journey of an ongoing struggles and battles similar to what we all live, each in their own way, accompanied by hope and strength, two core attributes which we have to always keep. Let us always remember: “Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieve it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” Dylan Thomas, 1951. ------------------ This video was created by Maximilian Englisch, a very talented young man.
