Yesterday my fiance and a couple friends and I went to Oregon to go see some American Alsatians. Someone online shared this link with me, so I just had to check them out: http://www.direwolfproject.com/home.html These dogs were SO friendly!! Never once was there ANY signs of aggression, even though we were complete strangers coming into their territory. On the contrary, we were met with wet tongues, happy barks (not excessive barking though), and wagging tails. These dogs were bred for temperament and health, and are now being worked on to get the bone structure to match the dire wolf. People insult this breed because they're still working on it and do cross-breed every now and then to get in the traits that they desire, but one thing people need to remember is that all purebreds at some point started out as nothing but mutts. From what I saw, there is a definite breed line and many of the dogs WERE only bred Alsatian-to-Alsatian, with a distinct appearance and personality. When there's a cross-breeding, you can usually still see the Alsatian in the dog, and it's no secret that that's a first generation mix (Lois has no problem telling you the truth-there's nothing to hide here). The dogs are also all very healthy, and we were told that the inherited health problems that came with the original breeds used have been bred out now. More breed info below: http://www.schwarzdogs.com/breed-stan... Overall, Lois and her daughter REALLY knew their stuff. The dogs were beautiful, sturdy, and extremely well tempered. The environment they were in (you don't see all of it on video) is lovely, and they were all very happy dogs. I'm normally a shelter supporter, and don't have a kind view of breeders. I wish them the best of luck and good genes as they try to get the perfect mix to accomplish their complete breed goal. Hopefully when they get puppies we will take them up on their offer and go back again to play with them! I mean, umm, help socialize them, haha.
