Vicki: I am Vicki Kasper and I've been in the States now for about 50 years. Originally from England, I married a Marine and went to South Carolina. I've been living all over the United States. At this time in my life living in Florida, which I really do enjoy---I do a lot of traveling. I've been to Australia and New Zealand a few times, and we've just gotten back from London and Paris this past month. I've really enjoyed playing golf. I learned to play golf in the last 10 or 15 years and we belong to Tampa PalmsCountry Club where we play at least three times a week, and we also joined the Audubon Society at Tampa Palms. There are only a few of us that actually did any work because everyone was quite elderly so every Monday when there wasn't a tournament my husband and I used to go and cater to all the gardens. We actually increased it from two to 13. And this particular Monday (01:00) when I had my accident, we were pretty much done with our work and we were coming over this bridge on hole number 18 and the maintenance cart they gave us this time kept pulling a lot to the left. As we rounded the corner, the maintenance cart started pulling against the left into the water and my husband pulled it to the right and I flew off the back landing on my left shoulder, my left wrist, and my left knee... And I knew immediately there was something wrong. We then went ahead and took me to emergency because I had a broken wrist and a broken clavicle. After the hospital, I was referred to go to a doctor to see about possible surgery. After going to this particular doctor I decided that I wasn't comfortable. I did not want to go back to this doctor. I then remembered friends saying that they had used Florida Orthopaedic Institute for many of their surgeries. So I went on their website and I found Dr. Nydick (02:00), and I called to make an appointment and they saw me the next day. At my first visit to Florida Orthopaedic Institute with Dr. Nydick was outstanding. Staff were unbelievable. When Dr. Nydick came in he answered all my questions, he took more X-rays, and he said I definitely needed the surgery on my wrist. The clavicle, I had to just wear a sling for two months, that's the only way that heals. When I went for surgery, I couldn't believe how all the staff were well notified that I had a broken clavicle. They made sure that I had some kind of block in it so the nerve, that it was already in the position where I wouldn't have to turn my shoulder. Again, concern from the doctor, the nurses, the staff, it was all a really good experience. After going back to Dr. Nydick to examine my hand and my wrist after surgery, took X-rays. He was well pleased that everything (03:00) had turned out well. The plate and the three screws that are now in my wrist are all nice and straight. Again, I couldn't do much physical therapy, although he gave me a few hand ones that I could do. Every time I went back, he gave me different hand exercises and he said I will not need physical therapy on my hand because I've been doing everything he's told me to do. The only exercise I could do was walking. I loved yoga. I used to do yoga before golf. I played three rounds of golf, weights three times a week, I did not do any of that. I still wasn't up to it two months later. Still just walking and doing my hand exercises. I have now progressed to holding a two-pound weight and twisting it around my wrist to strengthen it. Dr. Nydick did suggest that it's going to take at least six to nine months to get back to the way I was, working out, playing golf, and going to the gym. So I'm looking forward to a much better year (04:00), and a much better life. This has been a real strain on who I am, not being able to do my normal daily duties and my daily exercise, and enjoying life. I stopped enjoying being here because I was so in pain and unable to do work I like to do. I would put the word 'caring' into all that I've experienced at Florida Orthopaedic Institute. From the beginning to the end: phone calls returned on time, there was never a problem if I wanted a copy of theX-ray, it was given to me as I left the offices. They did 100 percent follow-up on everything. Not usually do doctors offices call at the same day as you called to get any information, but they did it for us and I would highly recommend it.
