Survival Science #1: The Solar Still - STEM with Mr. C

Hello again everybody! Welcome to our first edition of survival science, where we are going to be making the solar still. This is a great way to demonstrate the water cycle in action. Imagine you are on a deserted island, lost in the forest, or even stranded in the desert. Water is key to our survival. Generally, a human can only go about 3 days without water. This all depends on activity level, temperature, your age, and your overall health. So how can we get water from the environment if there isn't a drinking fountain to be found? Or you didn't bring your water bottle? Fortunately, we can use the water cycle to give us water when we need it the most! You'll need the following materials to complete this science lab with me: -A large bowl -A small cup (must be shorter than the sides of the bowl) -A plastic sheet (plastic wrap works great, wax paper, etc) -Non-potable water (salt water, muddy water, etc) -A small rock -Rubber band or tape -Time and sunshine That's it.
