'The Plate of Gold' is a well known poem written by 'James Henry Leigh Hunt'. The poet emphasis for the love for mankind. The poet tells us to remember that we must not get crazy about material gain, but love one another as God loves us all. God will always reward the person who shows love and concern for his fellow men. The poem is full of love and compassion. It is an epic poem, so no proper format of structure and stanzas is given by the poet. The poem does not have any particular rhyme scheme. Such verses are called 'Free Verses'. It is an imaginary, narrative poem. The narration keeps us spell bound and the reader wants to go on reading the poem. The poet have used multiple figures of speech such as : 1. Personification - ex. 'tears welled up and trembled in his eyes.' 2. Simile - ex. 'While o'er his soul, like morning, streamed the love of God.' I like the poem because the poet has used incidents to show us that love for fellow men is very essential in life. The message that comes to the readers through the poem is very clear.
