FAUX LEATHER BOW HEADBANDS WITH CRICUT

This project was inspired by my long unfulfilled desire to create faux leather bows. I know they will look SO cute on my baby’s head and they also look great hanging on my DIY hair accessory wall hanger. (CLICK HERE:    • WALL MOUNTED ACCESSORY DISPLAY FOR NURSERY  ) Read my tips below for further assistance. These aren’t easy from the start but the more you practice, the better you get! They are also pretty inexpensive to make EVEN IF you don’t own a Cricut or cutting machine, you can print off the templates, trace, and cut by hand! If you’re looking for cheap, easy, AND stunning.. you came to the right place. A special thank you to the Jumprope app for helping me create this tutorial. Happy crafting! TIPS -At the end of the Jumprope I added real time assembly. Timestamp: 05:10 -I linked the exact faux leather from Amazon I used for the metallic single colored bows in the supply list: HOT GLUE DID NOT STICK! (I was using Elmer’s Hot Glue) -I reached out to other leather bow crafters and consistently was referred to E6000. It is stinky and messy but HOLDS! Hints the use of toothpicks for application. -Don’t use too much glue. It globs out even when you aren’t touching the tube. Let it. Grab what you need with a toothpick and worry about the mess later. That’s why I use newspaper! (Sorry about the toilets! LOL) -Don’t apply too much glue with your toothpick. I kept thinking more glue would make it stay quicker. Wrong. It just made it messier. A little dab'll do ya! -What comes out of the tube may become thick and partially cured before you get to it. If this happens, just take your toothpick and swipe it away from the nozzle. Apply light pressure to your tube and grab the new glue that comes out. -I wore my respirator while working with it because I am pregnant and it is really stinky. Always read your safety precautions! -BE PATIENT! This is a hard one for me. Even after learning the lesson I would attempt to multitask. I had gotten better by the time I filmed this. If you’re making your first bow go even slower! Don’t attempt to use one hand to hold pressure while grabbing other pieces. Just try to be patient with the gluing process. If you take your eyes off of the bow you are holding in place it WILL slide out of position by the time your eyes come back to it and if you let go entirely it will POP apart and you’ll want to cry.. or maybe that’s just my hormones! Go slow. You won’t regret it. -Many other crafters suggested clips, I tried using them and my bow still slid out of place. Instead, I constructed the entire bow onto the headband and then once it was somewhat set I would place it under a 2x4 piece of wood. Anything flat and heavy will work. It holds the bow in place for the last step so you can move on to your next bow! And don’t worry, it will fluff back up! TIMESTAMPS 00:00 Title 00:05 Hello! 00:33 What you’ll need 00:43 Step 1: Upload Bow Template into DS and resize 01:09 Step 2: Cut with Cricut 01:32 Step 3: Get organized 01:43 Step 4: Create headbands by cutting panty hose 02:09 Step 5: Glue large bow piece 02:35 Step 6: Glue onto bottom piece 02:59 Step 7: Glue & layer smaller bow piece onto larger bow piece 03:19 Step 8: Glue long skinny piece onto top of the layered bow 03:44 Step 9: Glue bow onto the headband, wrap long piece around, and glue. 04:07 Step 10: Never let go of pressure!
