Tube guitar amps are fascinating beasts, as they are designed to produce precisely what hifi amps try to eliminate: distortion. The Epiphone Valve Special is an interesting example, as it combines tubes with solid state circuitry to create an amp that bridges the gap between these two technologies, at a very affordable price. For a tube radio restorer like myself, the class A single-ended output stage is also interesting, as it is very similar to the output stages implemented in countless german tube radios from the 50's.
