Commitment to Social Responsibility and Community Support UMST has a strong tradition of social accountability, contributing significantly to underserved communities. The university has constructed housing, established health centers, and provided healthcare facilities to support disadvantaged populations in Sudan, underscoring its commitment to making a positive social impact. Resilience in Times of Crisis When conflict broke out in Sudan on April 15, 2023, the devastation impacted infrastructure across the country, including bridges, hospitals, and educational institutions. Despite these challenges, UMST responded proactively, seeking new locations to ensure continuity in education for its students. Adopting the slogan “GO AFRICA,” UMST established its first cross-border campus in Rwanda, allowing students to complete their disrupted academic year. Partnering with the University of Rwanda, UMST enrolled both preclinical and clinical students, including dental students, who were warmly received and integrated into Rwanda's healthcare system. UMST students are now gaining practical experience in six hospitals across Kigali and outside Rwanda’s capital. A Full-Fledged Campus in Kigali UMST’s Kigali campus is a comprehensive facility, equipped with international-standard resources and accredited by Rwanda’s Higher Education Council. The campus embraces a multicultural environment, welcoming students from diverse backgrounds, including Rwandan, Sudanese, and international students. UMST is grateful to the University of Rwanda for hosting its students and continues to collaborate with them, with plans for joint research initiatives and postgraduate programs in the near future.
