On Monday we took a ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad — a relaxing fall trip from Blue Ridge, Georgia, up to McCaysville, Georgia, and Copperhill, Tennessee. The journey is about 26 miles round trip, traveling along the beautiful Toccoa River at an easy 15 mph. We had a nice stop for lunch and a walk around the twin towns before heading back. The ride only takes about four hours total, but it’s packed with great scenery and small-town charm. Definitely a fun and memorable trip! FYI... CAR HISTORY Coach 549 Coach 549 was one of five identical cars ordered from Budd Co. by Santa Fe RR and delivered in March 1938 to be a part of the new prewar streamliner, The Super Chief. It was built as a round-end, 32-seat parlor car, then was converted to a mid-train 44-seat coach in 1959. In 1969. it was sold to New Jersey DOT for commuter service renumbered 2409 and converted to an 84-seat coach. Eventually it was sold to the Greensboro Chapter, NRHS, which converted it to its present 56 walk-over seat configuration and installed generator heat and air-conditioning. The car was purchased by the Blue Ridge Scenic RR in the fall of 1998. Its the oldest and most traveled car on the line. Notable Past coach Riders include: Lucille Ball Bing Crosby
