Octopus control is a highly effective way to counter a top player attempting to crossface you. Look at this as a duck under from your back. The Octopus itself is basically a sort of inverted far side underhook. The Coyote Kosoto hook will help us form several different attacks, including setting up the Dog Fight position. These techniques can be supplemented with our previous class on Coyote/Dog Fight Underhook Half Guard:    • Underhook Half Guard. Coyote & Dog Fight. ...   1️⃣Part one begins with our basic Octopus Half Guard Positioning and concepts. This includes using the Coyote Hook to sweep our opponent with a mechanical roll under sweep. 2️⃣Part two moves onto the opposite direction of attack with the Hip Bump sweep. This direction helps us stay safe from counters such as the crossface and hip switch position. 3️⃣Part three introduces the Dog Fight position. Climbing up to our knees gives us strong options to attack, such as the ankle pick displayed in this section. 4️⃣Part four takes us to the opposite direction of the Dog Fight, where we circle back to a momentum based variation of the Roll Under sweep.
