Autumn olive (elaeagnus umbellata) and Russian Olive (elaeagnus angustifolia) are non-native invasive plants (deciduous shrubs or trees) and removal can seem daunting. Hardy Brothers, Josh and Jason, are returning 80 acres of strip mined land to natives and have partnered with the USDA on an #EQIP program to remove and control the invasive Autumn Olive shrub and to simultaneously build out brush piles to improve wildlife numbers in the area. They demonstrate three methods of autumn olive removal that they have named; Hack and squirt, Bump and run, and Mow it down... Each method has proved to be effective thus far, but the job is big and will take time.
