●*● Kyoto City Ukyo-ku South 右京区南部・山之内 ●*● 　 ** Sanno Shrine 山王神社 The place where Sanno Shrine is located once was a territory land of Enryakuji Temple of Mt. Hiei. This location is called Yamanouchi area. It was originally associated with Enryakuji Temple for being the birth place of Myotoku who is the mother of Dengyo Taishi Saicho ( Founder of Tendai Sect of Buddhism who established Enryakuji Temple ). The place is now visited by people wishing for a healthy birth of a child and good relationship between married couples as well as bonding, avoiding troubles in their lives. The very first thing striking in the view are the ancient trees standing massive and tall. The one called Sanno-kusu is more than 700 years old. The highlight of the shrine is a rock deity called " Hufu-iwa = Rock of married couple ". This huge rock was was discovered under the ground of this shrine when the mail hall of the shrine was under its construction. There are several rock deities enshrined in the ground as monuments as well as various small shrines. Wakamiya Shrine is here for the ones to wish for the luck of love-life. Photo on the right is Gomagi. They are burned in a ritual called Gomadaki with written wishes. Placed next to ane another are Inari Shrine built for the wish for rich harvest and Soreisha where the spirit of those who were devoted to the development of this area are enshrined.
