It addresses planning hemp operations, risks to keep in mind, whole-farm planning, seed selection, genetics, spacing and design considerations, financial planning, labor planning, irrigation, weed control, fertilization, agronomic best practices, the most common hemp pests, IPM, organic hemp production, and other considerations for a sustainable hemp operation. The panel of experts includes: Mike Lewis, a sustainable agriculture specialist with NCAT at the Northeast Regional Office; Dr. Shawn Lucas, professor and researcher at Kentucky State University; Dr. Gordon Jones, an extension agriculture faculty at the OSU Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center; Dr. Kadie Britt is a postdoctoral scholar, University of California, Riverside Entomology, located at the Kearney Agricultural Research Extension Center in Parlier, California, and Paul Murdoch, the owner and general manager of Horn Creek Hemp, a family owned and operated farm in Southern Oregon. This video is produced by the National Center for Appropriate Technology through the ATTRA Sustainable Agriculture program, under a cooperative agreement with USDA Rural Development. ATTRA.NCAT.ORG. Planning Your Hemp Operation’s Design Dr. Gordon Jones, Extension Agriculture faculty at Oregon State University's Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center presents about seed selection, genetic risk, site selection, soil testing, spacing and design considerations, timing your planting, ground preparation, transplanting vs. direct seeding, and more. Hemp Integrated Pest Management Dr. Kadie E. Britt, postdoctoral researcher with the Department of Entomology at University of California, Riverside, discusses the main insect pests that affect hemp, and the ways you can address them. Chapter Eight. Case Study: Horn Creek Hemp Paul Murdoch of Horn Creek Hemp, a hemp farm in Oregon's Rogue Valley, gives us a glimpse into the day-to-day realities of managing a successful organic and biodynamic hemp farm. He discusses what irrigation, weed control, fertilization, IPM, and more look like on their farm. Chapter Nine.
