My first stop along the Transfăgărășan Highway was to visit the ruins of Poenari Castle, the former home of Vlad the Impaler or as some say the real Count Dracula! An epic walk in the Carpathian Mountains. 🇷🇴 You can see all of my ROMANIA videos here → https://bit.ly/mwt_romania Poenari Fortress is a famous castle in Romania and although not the easiest place to visit it's definitely worth a few hours of your time if you're in the area. The incredible Transfăgărășan Highway passes by so it’s a wonderful place to explore if you’re driving the route. There’s plenty of parking and even a small cafe near the starting point. If you're not planning a visit then why not take a self guided walking tour around the real Dracula's Castle with me as I scale the 1,480 steps to the top. The castle ruins are perched on the top of a mountain peak and great for exploring, there’s also a few interesting information boards that explain the history of the castle and how it’s changed over time. Before heading down I was able to fly my drone and get some spectacular shots of Poenari Castle and the surrounding hills and forests of the Carpathian Mountains.
