The Organisms That Remember Air Pollution

In this video, I explore how lichens are sensitive indicators of long term air quality, how different lichen species respond to sulphur dioxide, nitrogen pollution, and changing atmospheric conditions, and how they can help us read the environmental history of a place. We’ll look at crustose, foliose and fruticose lichens, nitrogen-tolerant species, and how bark chemistry, rock type, and microclimate all influence what grows where.
