Following the death of Hamas commander Yahya Sinwar, Hamas may appoint Khalil Al-Hayya or Khaled Mashal as the organization's new leader. Both names are considered frontrunners for the position. Al-Hayya heads Hamas's political bureau in Gaza and consistently advocates for military confrontation with Israel until Israel completely withdraws from Gaza. Khaled Mashal, a former head of the political bureau, enjoys significant political support within Hamas. Mashal has been distancing himself from Iran's "axis of resistance" and maintains close ties with mediating Arab countries.
