Taken on December 12th, 2025. In June 2025, internal MTA documents were leaked, indicating that a proposal to reroute (M) trains through the 63rd Street Tunnel and reroute (F) trains through the 53rd Street Tunnel would be presented for approval. The route swap was anticipated to reduce overcrowding at 63rd Street line stations, as well as reduce reliance on interlockings west of the 36th Street station in Queens. In September 2025, the MTA confirmed that the (F) and (M) trains would swap routings on weekdays starting on December 8, 2025, with the (F) running via 53rd Street and the (M) running via 63rd Street. Service on the (M) route would also be increased during rush hours to provide additional service along the 63rd Street Line, since (M) trains ran less frequently than (F) trains. Beginning December 8th, 2025, (F) and (M) trains will permanently swap routes between Manhattan and Queens on weekdays from approximately 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.: (F) trains will now stop at Queens Plaza, Court Sq-23rd St, Lexington Av/53rd St, and 5th Av/53rd St. These stations are currently served by the (M). (M) trains will now stop at 21 St-Queensbridge, Roosevelt Island, Lexington Av/63rd St, and 57th St. These stations are currently served by the (F). During the day and evening, (F) trains will continue to run express and (M) trains will continue to run local in Queens. Service will not change on weekends or during late nights: (F) trains will still stop at 21 St-Queensbridge, Roosevelt Island, Lexington Av/63rd St, and 57th St on weekends and during late nights. (M) trains will still run between Delancey St-Essex St and Middle Village-Metropolitan Av on weekends and between Myrtle Av and Middle Village-Metropolitan Av during late nights. For service to/from Queens Plaza, Court Sq-23rd St, Lexington Av/53rd St, and 5th Av/53rd St during these times, take the (E). Note: This R160A (M) train was taken in car #9955.
