Our first big road trip from the Netherlands was through Germany and Austria. We have friends in both places, and had a great time with them there. In Germany we went skiing in Winterberg, stopped by a couple of cute towns (Hattingen and Seligenstadt), and caught up with friends in Baden-Württemberg. On the way south we stopped by Neuschwanstein Castle (the one the Disney castle is based on). In Austria we went to Innsbruck to catch up with another friend.
