Keeping your house warm in the Scottish Highlands can be a matter of life or death. So, which way is better: mains gas (or heating oil) and a wood-burning stove, or solar and a heat pump? The answer is...it depends. The overwhelming majority of homes in Scotland currently use mains gas or oil (sometimes in conjunction with firewood), whereas heat pumps are becoming more popular despite their high up-front cost. For me personally, however, what tilts the balance is having a wood-burning stove, and in this video I explain why.
