In the Summer of 2021, we were invited to film at the Roman excavations on the Burrs Playing Field in Brough on Humber in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It quickly became apparent that one of the key aspects of this excavation was the role that the public were playing in not only volunteering their time, but in learning and taking a lead in excavating the archaeology that was emerging. This is the second in a three part series examining the Public, the Archaeologists and the Story of the Petuaria ReVisted project, 2021 season. PETUARIA REVISITED website: https://petuariarevisited.co.uk/ *** Petuaria: Not (just) another Roman fort!? "You may not have heard of Brough-on-Humber, but it is potentially one of the most exciting archaeological sites in Roman Britain!" The PETUARIA ReVisted Project is made up of local people, working together with Hull University and other archaeologists to bring to life the story of the people who lived, where they live now, almost 2,000 years ago. Placements for local people on the excavation are FREE and this year the participants will be drawn from serving and retired military personnel, emergency service workers and NHS staff who have been working on the 'front-line' during the COVID-19 pandemic.
