Welcome back to Telewa. If you have been following our nomadic life, you will spot a happy surprise today: little Akan is back! After recovering in the village, someone trekked up the mountain to bring him home while our nephew Ali returned to village life. Our family is finally whole again, and Medina's camera rarely leaves his side. It is a very wet spring day in the mountains. The rain tests the small leaks in our stone roof, but every drop is good for the Zagros pastures. We send the black Bakhtiari goats out to graze, as their coarse hair acts like a natural raincoat. The white goats, however, have fine fur that absorbs water like a sponge. We keep them inside the smaller hut where their body heat acts as a living radiator to keep the baby lambs warm. Akan is eager to step right back into the rhythm of off grid living. He practices his herding calls, tries his best to carry the heavy water basin, and keeps us company as we chat with neighbors down at the spring. As the wet day ends, we share tea by the fire and Muqaddar splits wood from our pile for the night. But there is one last surprise: whoever brought Akan up also carried a borrowed solar battery. For the first time since our own unit broke in February, our stone hut is bright again. Thank you for your warm gaze and for staying with us until the end 🌹.
