THE FINAL WORD: If you’re a Sony A7 shooter and you’re trying to decide whether you should spring for the G-Master 85mm f/1.4 or the more competitively priced Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8, well, in my opinion, you’re really not sacrificing much in the way of optical quality, and f/1.4 vs f/1.8 isn’t quite the same handicap that it used to be, in fact more and more lens manufacturers are coming up with optically excellent lenses while simultaneously keeping the size, weight and most importantly price down by offering good value f/1.8 lenses. Granted, the Zeiss Batis is on the high end of those lenses, but the Zeiss’s optics certainly don’t sacrifice much in the way of quality.
