During The ICE in St. Moritz I have filmed the 1996 Koenigsegg CC Prototype. "CC" is for Competition Coupé - was the audacious proof-of-concept that launched Christian von Koenigsegg's Swedish supercar venture, with the ambitious to build a world-class high-performance car from a clean sheet. After nearly two years of design and fabrication, the first running CC prototype was driven in 1996 at Sweden's Anderstorp Raceway by touring-car ace Rickard Rydell, with fellow racers Picko Troberg and Calle Rosenblad. The CC introduced design ideas that would become brand signatures: a detachable, stowable roof that preserved the car's coupe proportions (unusual among the era's exotics), and the now-famous dihedral synchro-helix doors, a uniquely engineered hinge system that sweeps outward and upward for practicality and theater alike. Media exposure quickly followed. In 1996, Koenigsegg brought the CC to the Cannes Film Festival, where the prototype drew global attention. By September 2000, the first production-intent CC-now with a full carbon-fiber body and refined engineering-debuted at the Paris Motor Show, marking Koenigsegg's step into homologated road-car territory.
