What is Selfmate? A Checkmate that will thrill you!

A selfmate is a chess problem where White plays first and compels a resistant Black to deliver mate in the stipulated number of moves. Like orthodox directmates, selfmates are adversarial problems; only here, the contest between the two sides is turned on its head. In this video, the president of the World Federation for Chess Composition (WFCC), Marjan Kovacevic, gives you a quick tutorial on selfmate by demonstrating a simple example of the same by the legendary Czech composer and leading exponent of the Bohemian school of chess composition Miroslav Havel. Marjan is joined by Julia Vysotska, a FIDE Master in Chess Composition and Latvia's delegate to the WFCC.
