Long before Charu Majumdar, the founder and general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) authored the historic 'Eight Documents' that outlined the ideological principles on which the militant communist movement in India was based, the 'Andhra Thesis' was written. T. Nagi Reddy and D.V. Rao, both staunch Communists, co-authored the 1948 thesis arguing that the Indian revolution should follow the Chinese path of protracted people’s war. Having been active in the legendary Telangana armed struggle of 1946-1951, united Andhra Pradesh was already a fertile ground for communist ideology. If the thesis provided a reason for radicalism, Andhra University (estb 1926), REC Warangal (estb 1959) and many other universities were the cradle of the radical communist movement. That more than 85% of Maoists—surrendered or encountered - belong to AP, shows how the region played a pivotal role in nurturing revolutionary thought, producing influential leaders, and testing militant strategies for comrades across India to emulate. In a detailed conversation with The Print's Deepika Amirapu, former Director General of Andhra Pradesh shares how the Greyhounds, a special forces unit specialised in counter-insurgency operations against Naxalite-Maoist terrorists all over India. The then Andhra Pradesh government's approach—controlling law and order, enforcing policy reforms, and developing special rehabilitation packages for Maoists—became a model for the central government to follow. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Exclusive content, special privileges & more – Subscribe to ThePrint for Special benefits: https://theprint.in/subscribe/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Connect with ThePrint » Subscribe to ThePrint: https://theprint.in/subscribe/ » Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://bit.ly/3nCMpht » Like us on Facebook: / theprintindia » Tweet us on Twitter: / theprintindia » Follow us on Instagram: / theprintindia » Find us on LinkedIn : / theprint » Subscribe to ThePrint on Telegram: https://t.me/ThePrintIndia » Find us on Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2NMVlnB » Find us on Apple Podcasts: https://apple.co/3pEOta8
