RD21791(vid). The ex South African Railway Beyer-Garratt that normally hauls the Porthmadog to Beddgelert trains on the Welsh Highland Railway was in the works for repairs for a couple of days at the end of May / beginning of June, so Double Fairlie 0-4-4-0Ts MERDDIN EMRYS and DAVID LLOYD GEORGE were used as substitutes. I was there at the time, so was able to record this on video and this is a short film of the two Fairlies in action. The video starts with an up train crossing the standard gauge Cambrian Coast Line at Cae Pawb on the outskirts of Porthmadog and this is followed by a down train as it leaves the top end of the Aberglaslyn Pass. The final shots are of the train departing from Beddgelert on its return journey to Porthmadog.
