Responding to Non-Consensual Intimate Image Distribution

Non-consensual intimate image distribution (NCIID), often referred to as “revenge pornography” or “image-based sexual abuse,” is an unforgiving reality that continues to plague the lives of many within today’s digital landscape. Responding to this phenomenon is no simple task given its variable contexts and levels of harm, stressing the importance of multipronged approaches to address this growing form of gender-based violence.  Moderated by Ruhiya Seward, is joined by experts Grace Mutung’u, Michelle Bordachar and Nonhlanhla Chanza who speak about this issue as it pertains to Kenya, Chile and South Africa, respectively. The experts offer recommendations and roadmaps for further action within the existing landscape as outlined in CIGI’s latest paper, part of the Supporting a Safer Internet: Global Survey of Gender-Based Violence Online project, titled “Non-Consensual Intimate Image Distribution: The Legal Landscape in Kenya, Chile, and South Africa”.  Content warning: This event includes discussion of sensitive information related to the non-consensual distribution of intimate images.
