Design Thinking for Public Policy and Social Impact--at NYU Wagner

In its debut at NYU Wagner, an innovative course created by Mike Peng of IDEO, an adjunct professor, introduces public policy students to the concept of design thinking. In the students' final projects near the end of 2010, they applied design thinking -- a sophisticated approach most commonly used in the creation of consumer products -- in ways meant to influence public policy and effect bold social impact. Their assigned focus was New York City and its schools, subways, hospitals, and other services. Their challenge was to come up with ways improve these services on behalf of their respective clientele.
