Bernd Burbaum (40) has developed a new laser welding process that makes it possible to repair expensive gas turbine blades so they are as good as new. A further benefit is that the blades no longer need to be heated before being laser-welded. Burbaum, who works in Berlin at Siemens Power and Gas, is convinced that new welding processes still offer a lot of potential for innovation.
