We found a large American Eel in a small PA creek The American eel (Anguilla rostrata) is found on the east coast of North America. The American eel has snake like body that is covered with a protective mucus layer. A long dorsal fin runs down the back and is continuous. The ventral fin is similar. They are olive green, brown with white underside. The American eel can be found in fresh or brackish water habitats. The adults will migrate into the ocean to spawn. The common length is around 20 inches, however the longest recorded length is almost 60 inches! Delaware County, PA (DELCO).
