What happens to a train when it finishes its run? Burr Stewart takes us through the steps of breaking down an arriving train, as seen from the perspective of a railfan on his HO scale Burrlington Northern in the Seattle area set in 1973. He uses car cards and waybills to direct the switching moves, and shares a number of operating and philosophical tips about model railroad operations in switching yards. Further information on his layout can be found on other videos on this YouTube channel, @muchfunwithtrains, well as his blog burrlingtonnorthern.blogspot.com. Burr's HO/HOn3 train layout is set in the Seattle region in 1973, three years after the 1970 corporate merger that created the Burlington Northern (BN) Railroad out of the Great Northern (GN), Northern Pacific (NP), Burlington Route (CB&Q) and the Spokane, Portland and Seattle (SP&S) railroads. Playing smaller roles on the layout are the three-foot narrow gage (HOn3) D&RGW "west coast extension", the Milwaukee Road (MILW)'s western extension and the Union Pacific (UP). He took the videos with an iPhone X, and edited them in iMovie and Photoshop on a MacBook Pro. The trains shown in this video were operated by Dave Enger, Scott Wiesemann and Lisa Murray. More videos about Burr's HO model train layout can be watched on this channel @Burr Stewart , which includes both model and prototype footage of trains in the Seattle region. More information about the real Burlington Northern Railroad (and the subsequent BNSF and Montana Rail Link (MRL)) can be obtained by joining the FOBNR at https://FOBNR.org . @muchfunwithtrains 0:00 Introduction 0:50 Train entering Interbay yard 3:04 Tour of the yard 5:44 Cutting off the power 7:50 Breaking down the train 22:20 Putting away the caboose 25:35 Conclusion
