Before I Leave — a short film.

This film is about identity, femininity, and the bravery it takes to simply go outside as yourself. Malik is drawn to drag, but shaped by insecurity and fear of how he’ll be perceived. That hesitation isn’t his own…it’s learned. I made this for anyone carrying parts of themselves they were taught to hide. For anyone who’s ever shrunk themselves to feel safe. You are allowed to take up space. You are allowed to be seen. What began as a class project became deeply personal. This was my first short film I wrote, directed, edited, handled sound and color, did hair and makeup, and performed in. It was a lot of work but I’d do it again and again. I’ve always been drawn to film and the creative process behind it, and I wanted to tell a story that felt honest. one that reflects me.
