A short amateur 16mm film of a pleasure boat trip setting out from Wharf Hill (I think) Llangollen to Horse Shoe Falls about 2 miles North. The pleasure boat is horse drawn and stops a little short of where the Chainbridge Hotel is today...at which point passengers alight and walk the remaining distance. Pleasure trips on the navigable portions of the Llangollen Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal date back to the late 19th century when Captain Samuel Jones started with two surplus lifeboats from a liner and ran day trips by to Chirk, as well as short trips to Berwyn. I have no idea when horse powered boats stopped appearing on this waterway...but it is lovely to see the horses here. I think this dates to about 1950 because of the film it came with...it may be a little earlier or later, but that is no matter...it is very old now! Isn't it amazing to think that none of the passengers on the boat looking at the camera could have imagined that we would see them some 75 years later? Equally amazing that few alive today imagine that 75 years later will come to them too. No credits or information about the film maker/s appears in this film or with it, Music I use: Bensound.com Artist: Benjamin Tissot License code: PKFEJXZH1HTR381Q
