It's very important to get this right. Getting the chain through the chain tubes can be a fiddly, slow process. We show you a way to speed that up too. The main points to note from the video are as follows. Take care when using the scissors to break open the packaging, both the main box and the individually wrapped components. A slip can, minimally, scratch the paint or anodizing. You can even ruin a component this way. We begin the assembly by installing the rear wheel first. Then you can just add the cross member so the trike will sit stably on the floor. You just power ahead with the result of the build from that point. It's a good idea to attach the handlebars at this point. Then install the rear deraillear—the front one is already installed on the trike on the boom. So do the boom next. Once all those elements are in place you can go ahead and fit the cable housings. A lot of the work to come involves installing the shifting and brake cables along with the cable housing. Make sure you are very conservative when cutting these. Cutting them too long is not a problem. Cutting them too short is. Cable housing that is too long can always be cut back. Once the chain is threaded through the chain tubes you run it through the front derailleur and then carry out the very important cutting-to-size. It's better to make a mistake by cutting the chain not short enough than too short. Then there's the chain quick release. Pay careful attention to this since you don't want your chain coming apart out on the road. Fortunately, the penalty for a mistake here is nowhere near as potentially disastrous as on an upright bike. But the inconvenience of a break-down is easily avoided by correct assembly procedure. Cables must be cut cleanly and having the right tool to do this is important. Pliers will crush-cut the fine strands that are twisted together to create a cable. This won't do. A cable must be cut cleanly in one stroke straight through and crimping the cable cap on the end becomes impossible. ==== We're also on Facebook so connect with us there as well: / performerrecumbents
