Enduro racing on XC bikes! Mass start downhill for the Trans Vesubienne Prologue

TransVesubienne Prologue 2025. Organised by the same people who run the Megavalanche in Alpe d'Huez, this is xc marathon racing with a twist! Starting in La Colmaine at 1500m in the French Alps and finishing by the Mediterranean Sea in Nice it is definitely weighted more towards gravity fed riding with a heavy emphasis on technical single trails. There is even a 50min neutral zone on one of the main climbs to help make things easier! Having said that, the 90km course still has nearly 3000m of climbing and therefore almost 4500m of descending so it's still a big day in the saddle and usually won by a rider with a time around the 5hr mark on a fairly racy looking cross country machine. To determine the order for the main event on Sunday morning they have a prologue in the afternoon on Saturday. It is supposed to be more like a short Enudro stage and riders are set off in waves of 3 with 1 minute gaps. The fastest person gets 15min knocked off their total time for the following day so it could be influential to the overall result. Bonuses go down incrementally to 60th place. From then on everyone receives a 10min reward which means you're hit hard if you don't finish or can't be bothered making the effort in the first place! This is my full run with a few bits of commentary. Unfortunately my Garmin files haven't saved correctly so there are no interesting overlays for you to look at on this occasion. Sorry!
