At least 30 police officers a day are being spat or coughed at by offenders threatening to infect them with coronavirus, as police chiefs demand attackers should face jail. A Daily Telegraph investigation into the 43 English and Welsh forces found 200 incidents a week of spitting or coughing at officers since the coronavirus outbreak. Some forces say it has doubled in the most recent four weeks. Most involve offenders telling officers they have the virus before spitting. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed it was now dealing with dozens of cases every day of spitting or coughing attacks against emergency service workers.
