One of my favorite parts of GT cars are the functional aero ducts. I especially love the huge duct in the hood of the R8 GT3 car. I knew that I finally had some room to make a narrower duct for my 350Z; so, I got to work. I already have sizable hood vents, I just needed to directly connect that to the radiator. Unfortunately, I only have room to cover about half the width of my radiator (something to change in the future). I used coroplast to make the duct after making the template out of cardboard. It isn't as deep as I would like, but it is as deep as I could make it before it hit the crank pulley. I had to brace it from behind to keep the air pressure from pushing it into the pulleys. I sealed it with caulk and tape with rubber strips to seal against the hood. I was able to test it with the fan and it was dramatically more air through the hood with the duct in place (as expected). The duct worked flawlessly at Road Atlanta at speeds up to 145mph. I can't quantify any gains in cooling or aero, but I have no reason to doubt it's positive effects. In the future I'd like to eventually make it wider and out of composite. As I move the engine further back, I will also have more room to make the duct deeper. Subscribe! Comment! Connect!
