A few days back we had some 3rd crop to chop, but before chopping we merged it 2-into-1. The biggest benefit of merging is probably the premium cut that a chopper at full load provides, followed closely by the time and fuel saved with the chopper unit covering less ground. Every windrow has to be handled whether you merge or not, but by merging you can handle half of them with a smaller, quicker tractor that is cheaper to run. Being used is our old faithful John Deere 6300 and our Kuhn that we picked up a few years back.
