A basic how-to on Meguiars Scratch X. It's pretty simple and works really well as long as you do it correctly. **THIS WILL ONLY TAKE OUT CLEAR COAT SCRATCHES! IF THE SCRATCH HAS GONE THROUGH THE CLEAR COAT YOU WILL NEED TO DO PAINT CORRECTION, WHICH I DID NOT SHOW IN THE VIDEO** Obviously, a lot of people don’t seem to understand what a clear coat scratch is, so I’ll break it down for you. There are different types of scratches, some deep and some light. A deep scratch penetrates through the layer of clear coat on top of the base paint and reaches into the actual paint on the body of the car. A clear coat scratch is one that just hits the top layer of clear coat. This damage to the clear coat can easily be fixed with the aforementioned product (Scratch X). You can use water to test if the scratch is shallow or deep. All you need to do is wet the damaged area and look to see if the scratch disappears, or stays visible. If the scratch disappears when water is applied then it is a clear coat scratch, which is easily fixable. If the scratch is still visible when it is wet then you have a scratch that went through the clear coat and more drastic measures need to be taken to fix the damaged area. I figured I would add a step by step here in the description. 1. Wash the car/wash the scratched area. Make sure to use some kind of degreaser to reach the clear coat easier without fear of creating more scratches. 2. Apply the scratch X to a microfiber towel or pad. Rub the scratched area with firm pressure. Make sure to feather the Scratch X around the scratch so it blends in with the paint. 3. Apply polish to your towel/pad and rub over the area you previously rubbed with scratch X. It doesn't seem to matter if you wipe off the scratch X before you apply the polish. 4. Wipe off the polish and scratch X and observe the scratched area. If you can still see the scratch then you need another application of Scratch X and Polish. 5. Continue steps 1-4 until the scratch is no longer visible. 6. Apply wax and buff. 7. Enjoy your new scratch free paint! I forgot to mention that it is important to wax the car after as you are taking off some of the clear coat.
